Being born and brought up in Sydney, Vimala Raman entered her childhood passion of Bharthanatyam at the age of five. In 1991, Vimala Raman joined her current guru, Smt. Jayalukshmi Kandiah O.A.M and the Natanalaya Dance and Music Academy, based in Sydney, Australia, where Vimala Raman further specialised in Bharthanatyam. Apart from performing locally Vimala Raman also given numerous international performances. Vimala Raman has completed numerous modelling assignments. In October 2004 Vimala Raman won the crown for the Miss India Australia 2004 title, as well as the Miss India Australia CyberQueen title.
